What is BOTOX?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A,
nature's most potent blocker of nerve impulses. BOTOX Cosmetic
works by partially blocking the nerve to the muscle. Deep wrinkles
and facial furrows form mainly in response to normal aging and the
action of underlying muscles.
How does Botox cosmetic work?
BOTOX Cosmetic works by partially weakening the muscles and
thereby decreasing the deep skin creases without surgery.
Which areas are treated best?
BOTOX injections work well on the upper third of the face,
forehead lines, furrows between the eyebrows, lines around the
eyes (crow's feet) and bunny lines ( lines around nose). Frown lines
(below the mouth) and chin creases may also be improved with a
BOTOX Cosmetic injection, but response here varies person to
person. It is also helpful in reducing smokers lines in upper and
lower lips.
BOTOX treatments for eyes
Wrinkles around the eyes can be specially noticeable as they are
caused by facial expressions and muscle movement. These lines
increase with age and are worse when face is exposed to outdoor
sun and ultraviolet light.
Fortunately these wrinkles are very responsive to BOTOX
treatments. BOTOX injection effectively weakens the muscles
responsible for squinting and crinkling of the eye area. The
treatment reduces or eliminates crow’s feet and other wrinkles
around the eyes. BOTOX effects only the muscle function so pain
sensation is spared.
BOTOX for forehead wrinkles
Forehead wrinkles form from many years of creating facial
expressions. Over many years, repetition of these facial
expressions create permanent creases in the skin. BOTOX helps
relax the facial muscles, resulting in smoother skin and fewer
wrinkles. In areas such as the forehead, where horizontal wrinkles
tend to form, the BOTOX benefits are particularly valuable. BOTOX
weakens the underlying muscles that cause wrinkles and deep
creases in the forehead. Forehead area is traditionally divided in
two portions, upper and lower. Lower part usually has more wrinkles
than upper. Effect of injection usually lasts few months.
BOTOX for the Brow line
Permanent brow wrinkles form from smiling, laughing, and
frowning. By treating the underlying muscles that create these
wrinkles with BOTOX, deep brow furrows are reduced or eliminated
for a period of up to several months.
BOTOX for Blepharospasms
Blepharospasm is condition usually in elderly in which there is
continuous twitching of eyes and it can be debilitating, causing
discomfort, pain or headache and visual problems. Luckily this can
be helped with BOTOX injections without surgery. As this is medical
problem, it is usually covered by medical insurance including
Medicare and other private carriers.
BOTOX for other health conditions
In addition to Blepharospasms, a variety of other medical conditions
